Editorial Policy

Adopted September 26, 1992
(Supersedes 1983 Editorial Policy)

The Bulletin

PURPOSE: The purpose of The Sea Ranch Association Bulletin is to provide information to members about the business and operations of The Sea Ranch Association. The Bulletin is the primary source of communication between the Board of Directors and the membership.

EDITOR:

  1. The Editor of The Bulletin shall be the Community Manager.
  2. The Editor will have full authority over the publication of The Bulletin, including all decisions regarding method of publication and content.

CONTENT: The Bulletin shall contain:

  1. Action minutes of the Board of Directors' Meetings with provision that the full text of the minutes shall be made available to all members who wish to receive a copy at a small handling cost.
  2. An abbreviated Financial Report from the Treasurer.
  3. The Chairman's Report, which should be a concise presentation of issues before the Association.
  4. Directors' Comments:

    As occasioned by the Board, a topical presentation and reply feature to educate members and the Board on issues, and to present the membership's response. Bulletin topics and text will be agreed to by consensus of the Board and any disputes over text will be decided by the Board Chair.
  5. Committee Chairs:

    Chairs of Committees will communicate to the Editor of The Bulletin topics upcoming for discussion in their committees along with meeting dates, times, and locations. The Bulletin Editor will include this information in The Bulletin.
  6. Other department reports or articles as deemed necessary or beneficial by the Editor.

COMMITTEES: The Communication Committee shall monitor The Bulletin and make recommendations as to content, costs, or procedures within the guidelines of the Editorial Policy and the Committee Charter. The Communication Committee will be available to advise the Editor and staff when questions of content or publication procedures arise.

CHANGES: Should the Editor and/or staff wish to make changes or additions to these policies and procedures, they shall be recommended to the Communication Committee for review and recommendations, and then forwarded to the Board of Directors for approval.

Soundings

The purpose of The Sea Ranch Soundings is to provide information about The Sea Ranch and to help foster communication.

To meet these goals, the editorial policy of the Soundings will be as follows:

  1. Soundings content and publication processes will be the responsibility of the Editor, independent of the TSRA Board of Directors. However, since Soundings is the Association newspaper, and some costs are assumed by the Association, the Board of Directors may as necessary exercise authority over the Soundings Editor.
  2. The Editor shall serve at the pleasure of The TSRA Board of Directors.
  3. Reporting will be balanced and express no personal bias or single point of view. Any controversial or sensitive issues will be covered fairly and present all, sides of an issue.
  4. The Editor of Soundings and its staff will have full authority over the publication of the newspaper, including all decisions regarding method of publication, advertising and content.
  5. The Communication Committee will monitor such processes and make recommendations as to content, costs or procedures within the guidelines of the Editorial Policy and the Committee Charter. The Communication Committee will be available to advise the Editor and Staff when questions of content or publication procedures arise.
  6. Should there be disagreement between the Soundings Editor and the Communication Committee that cannot be reconciled, the TSRA Board of Directors shall resolve the conflict.
  7. Should the Editor and/or staff wish to make changes or additions to these policies and procedures, they shall be recommended to the Communication Committee for review then forwarded to the TSRA Board of Directors for approval.
