South-East corner of one-eyed jacks; Del Mar Center, between center and pool, Northwest corner where driveway turns north to pool parking.
PLANT FEATURES
Horticultural Use:
Excellent specimen plant, good low screen
Habitat:
Shrub land, edge of forest.
Form and size:
Shrub 6 to 8 feet or small tree 20+ feet
Leaves:
Evergreen, spiny edge, deep shiny green on top, lighter, flat green below
Flowers:
Catkins or tassels in spring, female small but male long. In some cultivars male catkins are up to 1 foot long.
Disease:
No particular issue.
Deer resistance:
Very deer resistant.
Fire issues:
Remove dead limbs and fallen leaves, otherwise not particularly special.
