Facility Custodian/Pool Operator

Summary

Under direct supervision, performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks related to the janitorial, maintenance and stocking of supplies of buildings and recreational facilities; operates a variety of light equipment related to the performance of tasks. Performs any manual labor required to create, preserve, or enhance the assets of The Sea Ranch Association, other duties as assigned. 

Representative Duties

Provide janitorial service to buildings such as community centers, offices, stables, airstrip, chapel, barns and related outbuildings. Maintains and repairs recreational facilities, such as pools, tennis courts, equestrian facilities, playgrounds; maintains and repairs buildings such as community centers, stables, offices, barns and related outbuildings, and associated landscaping; drainage structures and signs; maintains and repairs swimming pools and associated circulation, heating, and filtration equipment; other duties as assigned. 

Organizational Relationships

The Facility Custodian/Pool Operator is a non-exempt, hourly position reporting directly to the F&R Operations Manager, or occasionally to a Facility or Pool Lead Worker. The Facility Custodian/Pool Operator may be full or part time and may be hired on a seasonal or project basis as well as on a regular basis. The Facility Custodian/Pool Operator may have frequent contact with owners and occasional contact with contractors and employees of other agencies. 

Qualifications Guide

  • Education and Experience: The ability to read and write English, make basic mathematical calculations; at least two years’ experience janitorial work preferred but not required. Must be able to work well as a team with other employees. Valid California driver’s license and acceptable motor vehicle report required. 
  • Knowledge and Abilities: The ability to learn and apply work techniques required for completion of tasks; the ability to follow written and verbal instructions; knowledge of a wide variety of equipment and assorted hand tools necessary to assigned tasks; level of physical fitness necessary to perform sustained physical labor within the scope of assigned projects; ability to work well in a crew environment.

  • Minor repair of recreational facilities and common area grounds
  • Testing water chemistry
  • Adding chemicals if needed
  • Uncovering and vacuuming pool(s)

All of the above specific job functions are essential to the successful performance of the job. 

Work History/Skills

  • Minimum two years’ experience in, janitorial work preferred but not required 
  • Ability to perform manual labor in all types of weather 

Education/Training

  • Ability to read and write English and perform basic mathematical calculations 
  • Possession of valid California drivers license; acceptable motor vehicle report 
  • Training in light equipment operation 

Personal Characteristics

  • Ability to work in crew setting with normal supervision, or alone with minimal supervision 
  • Ability to work cooperatively with fellow employees 
  • Ability to work with a variety of equipment and tools in numerous work settings in a safe manner 
  • Ability to be dependable and punctual
