Architectural Design Associate

The Sea Ranch Association is seeking an Architectural Design Associate to serve as a direct representative to the Director and Design Review Manager in the duties of the Design Compliance and Environmental Management department. The Associate will participate in ensuring that existing and new development and improvements conform to Homeowner Association (as determined by professional Design Committee) requirements and will visually survey general community development for conformance to TSRA and Design Committee policies and guidelines, in accordance with the founding principles of The Sea Ranch development. 

  • Non-Exempt, full-time position on-site in The Sea Ranch, CA 
  • Hourly range: $28.43 – $33.70 (commensurate with experience)

The ideal candidate will have a significant educational background in the field of Architecture or a closely related discipline, and two years’ increasingly responsible professional experience, with emphasis on residential scale development. Experience directly related to community development, design review and sustainability/environmental concerns may also qualify the applicant and is preferred. 

The Position:

  • Provides information to owners, design professionals and contractors regarding policies, procedures, and application requirements for property development at The Sea Ranch (TSR). 
  • Works with owners, design professionals and contractors to investigate and resolve design violations; initiates appropriate action subject to TSRA’s CC&R Enforcement Policy and Procedure. 
  • Prepares reports and studies regarding architectural and design issues at TSR including, but not limited to, use of innovative building materials, appropriate finishes for exterior siding, energy efficient design, educational materials regarding TSR’s development concept and design philosophy, statistical information regarding building at TSR, etc. 
  • Develop educational materials related to upholding The Sea Ranch Concept and Design Philosophy 
  • Assist Association members, design professionals, contractors, agents, etc. to understand the planning, design review and construction processes at The Sea Ranch 
  • As needed, implement pertinent sections of TSR Restrictions, Design Committee Rules, and The Sea Ranch Design Manual & Rules, and general building guidelines and requirements to ensure owner and contractor compliance with The Sea Ranch development principles. 
  • Continually monitors and strives to maintain the environmental and architectural quality of The Sea Ranch 

What You’ll Need:

  • Significant educational background or work experience in the field of Architecture or closely related discipline. 
  • Knowledge of current principles, practices, techniques and trends of architecture and environmental design, especially in relation to use of sustainable materials and building techniques and energy efficiency. 
  • Training in interpretation of construction documents and methods 
  • Graphic skills in drawing and recording. Computer literacy and a familiarity with CADD and/or mapping programs preferred.
